Delaware River Cargo
The Delaware River provides jobs for many people, as over 3000 ships enter the estuary every year to deliver cargo. In fact, the Delaware River is the fifth largest port in the country in terms of total waterborne commerce. Yearly, 70 million tons pass through the complex, and it is the second largest port in the United States for importing oil.
In 2003, 30% of the imports from the Delaware River included oil, and 19% was fruit. Other significant imports include containers, chemicals, iron, and steel.
