Dear Evan Hansen Wins 6 Tony Awards

‘Dear Evan Hansen’, a touching and remarkable story of lies, loneliness and loss in a high school community on Sunday won the 2017 Tony Award for Best Musical thus successfully transforming from an improbable idea to a theatrical success.

The cathartic and challenging theatrical performance, about a shy 17-year old boy whose social standing changes over night after imposing himself on the family of a dead classmate, got six awards including a Best Leading Award given to the talented Ben Platt who was the talk of the town due to his remarkable performance.

Mr Platt graciously accepted his award and gave a wonderful word of encouragement to young people who may feel different from the rest.

The victory by ‘Dear Evan Hansen Musical’ finalized a night where Broadway had spread its top awards across several musicals and plays, which was in sharp contrast to last year where Hamilton got most top awards. The event held at the Radio City Music Hall, was hosted by Kevin Spacey, who tried as best as he could to avoid politics and instead choosing to make fun of his own status as a late in the game and unexpected choice as host.
