Public Premier of the Wilmington Falcon Cam BOOTH EVENT

The DuPont Environmental Education Center gives visitors the opportunity to learn about the many species of amphibians, birds, mammals, fish, reptiles and native plants that call the local tidal area home.

But did you know that DEEC has scheduled activities available as well? The center offers Weekend Family Programs ranging from Naturalist Walks, Science Experiments, Storytime and more. Or, for adults enjoy Lunch with a Naturalist on the last Tuesday of each month.

April - Ponders Train Opening ACTIVITY

April 21, 2010

The Delaware chapter of The Nature Conservancy will open the new 9+ mile public trail system at the Pemberton Forest Preserve's Ponders tract (Milton, DE) from 1-3pm on Wednesday, April 21st - just in time for Earth Day. Once open, the trails will be available to the public from dawn to dusk from February through August. Come join The Nature Conservancy for the Grand Opening.

May - Horseshoe Crab Counting VOLUNTEER

May - June, 2010

Count teams of three or four head to the Big Stone and Bennetts beaches during high tide in the evening to count and sex the crabs and record their findings. This information is later collected and used by the University of Delaware in their study of Horseshoe Crabs.

Happy 3rd Birthday to the DuPont Nature Center at Mispillion Harbor Reserve!

Now is a great time to visit the DuPont Nature Center! In May, you can spot the red knot bird, which flies up from South America to feast on horseshoe crab eggs along the Delaware shores before flying to the Arctic for the summer.

The DuPont Nature Center offers one of the best viewing areas for spawning horseshoe crabs and migratory shorebirds during the peak season. Inside, learn about the area through educational exhibits and children's activities. The center is located off Route 1 near Milford, Delaware.

Join the Delmarva Ornithological Society and Clear into the Future for our popular annual Falcon Viewing event! Children and adults watch for a peak of the peregrine falcons that nest atop the Brandywine Building as they fly over the Wilmington skies. June - Project PORTS Oyster Restoration VOLUNTEER

June 2010

Project PORTS is a community-based oyster restoration and educational program focusing on the importance of oyster populations in the Delaware Bay ecosystem. As a volunteer, participate in the restoration effort by constructing and deploying "spat bags" which are designed to support the population growth of the oyster. In the process, you will learn about oyster populations, their contribution to the greater Delaware Bay ecosystem and how volunteers can make a real difference to the health of the Delaware Estuary. July - Species in the Estuary ACTIVITY

Going to the Delaware Beaches for the July 4th holiday - or any time this summer? Take a break to visit the DuPont Nature Center, conveniently located off Route 1 near Mildford!

The DuPont Nature Center offers one of the best viewing areas for spawning horseshoe crabs and migratory shorebirds during the peak season. Inside, learn about the area through educational exhibits and weekly children's activities. In July and August, the DuPont Nature Center is open from 8am-4pm Monday through Friday.
